Mini Rio Limited Edition Model

The Mini Rio was one of a series of limited edition models made by the Rover Group, with 750 examples built in June 1993 based on the Mini Sprite. It had a 1257cc 4 cylinder engine which produced 50 bhp and was matched to a four speed gearbox. It had a top speed of 87 mph and a 0-60 mph of 13.4 seconds. It was available in 3 colours, Black, Polynesian Turquoise Metallic and Pearlescent Caribbean Blue, and featured a unique 'Rio' sticker on the boot lid and each of the rear body panels. Standard in car entertainment featured a 3 band stereo radio/cassette with two rear speakers. The interior was also specially designed exclusively for the Mini Rio and here's a page from the brochure that Rover Group published. Back in the day before the internet, smart phones and computers, if you wanted to read about cars or find out all about them and the new models coming out you only had a few options. The best one was going to the motor show at the NEC in Birmingham or even better for earlier shows at Earls Court in London. But these only happened once a year and so the next on the list was to go to car showrooms, sit in the car and maybe come away with a brochure. Not easy if you were a 16 year old and couldn't drive. So the final option was to buy a motoring magazine from the local newsagents. Magazines such as Autocar, Motor, Car, Motor Sport, Hot Car, Cars & Car Conversions - or Triple C as it was known ! - were all great sources of information and they contained some of the best car adverts you've ever seen. Scalextric Latest Release – Ford Sierra RS Cosworth in Camel Rallycross Livery

New for 2020 from Scalextric is this delightful model in Yellow with Camel livery. And if you can't have the real thing then this is an excellent present for any motorsport fan for a Christmas or birthday present, especially if they are Fast Ford fans ! With the number C4155, it's priced at £40.99 and available from www.scalextric.com A regular sight in European Rallycross in the early 1990s this Camel sponsored Ford Sierra RS500 was piloted expertly on the tarmac and shale mix tracks of the ERC by Norwegian Bjorn Skogstad. Locked in an epic tussle with Rallycross hero Kenneth Hansen the yellow RS500 often came out second best to Hansen's green example. Hillman Super Minx and a Sprite Caravan, a Pair of Classics on Tour !

A 1966 Hillman Super Minx and a 1965 Sprite Musketeer caravan was an ideal set up in the 1960's for a touring holiday in the UK. The Hillman Super Minx was introduced in 1961 with a 1592cc engine and was available in saloon, estate and a nice looking two door convertible. Earlier versions, the MkI & MkII had a complex wraparound rear glass window, but for the 1964 model, the MkIII was introduced with a flat back window and there side windows instead, which actually let in more light ! But the 1592cc engine wasn't going to set the world on fire, as it had 62 bhp which gave a it a g pulling 80mph top end and a 0-60 mph of 21.6 seconds, which today is unthinkable ! Then in October 1965, Rootes introduced the MkIV with an upgraded 1725cc engine, which was used in many other of the Rootes Group products such as Rapiers and Alpines.
