Streetscene – MGB GT V8

Nipped out at the weekend to get a haircut in the local village and outside this garage was this gorgeous 1975 MGB GT V8.

One of only 2,591 made between 1973 and 1976 and they were all kept in the UK. They never built a left hand drive version for export to the US.

It was fitted with the same Rover V8 engine that powered the Rover P5b 3.5 Litre, it had a whopping 137 bhp producing 192 ft lbs of torque, which propelled it from 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds, which was pretty quick for the mid 1970’s !

It had a top speed of 125 mph, but the downside was you’d struggle to get 20 miles per gallon !

But it was launched at the start of the 1970’s fuel crisis and although it was loved by many enthusiasts, they just couldn’t afford the running costs, so it faded away.

But with the limited number, they’re very collectable now, with good models fetching £25k plus.
