Jaguar Adverts from the 1950’s & 1960’s

We love our classic cars here at My Classic but not having the wealth and the space to have a huge collection, like many enthusiasts, we love to collect models and copies of old adverts and catalogues of our favourite make or model.

We love the artistry of the 1950’s & 1960’s adverts, as it was easier to print drawings rather than photos in adverts and in brochures. But for this blog we want to look at Jaguar artwork from the age of Grace, Space & Pace which was a perfect strap line to describe Jaguar cars of the era. And we start with this gorgeous advert from 1951 of a Jaguar MkVII. Maybe with a bit of artist’s licence, but promoting the brand to go-getting successful owners driving down to the South of France on their holidays and bumping into Nigel from the golf club.

Moving onto the sleek two-tone Jaguar MkIX from 1958 featuring Sir James off to the office in the City.

1958 also brought this superb Jaguar Mk1 which had just transported it’s owners to the palace to meet the relatives !

For 1960 we get this great Jaguar Mk2 and the artist cleverly uses lines down the side of the car to illustrate it’s getting a move on ! Probably off to a luncheon date at the country club !

The world of the well-healed is again illustrated in this 1961 drawing of the owners just returning from Paris on the morning flight and are driving home in their Pearl Grey Jaguar Mk2. A lovely piece of artwork used for magazine adverts and even posters for the showroom.

Not forgetting big brother, this 1962 drawing features the Jaguar MkX swooping through a forest wearing its Autumnal colours. Definitely a case of artists licence showing the car looking longer and lower than perhaps it was in real life.

And finally to complete our set is this dashing Jaguar Mk2 speeding up the recently opened M1 Motorway, with the artist making ure to include another Jaguar in the opposite side of the motorway. Who knows, maybe their testing brand new cars fresh off the production line before heading off to their new owners !
