Log in / RegisterA big thanks to Roy Dowding, Secretary of the Gordon Keeble Owners Club who wrote to My Classic to say 2020 was the 50th Anniversary of the Gordon Keeble Owners Club and sent us some lovely photos of his car, chassis no 94.
First produced in 1964, they were the brainchild of John Gordon, MD of Peerless Cars, and Jim Keeble, an engineer and racing driver. Their idea was to mate a powerful American V8 engine from a Chevrolet Corvette with a Peerless to give it that extra grunt. And so the Gordon Keeble was born with the gorgeous bodywork being designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. But Roy opened a can of worms when he asked should it be Gordon Keeble or Gordon-Keeble with a hyphen ? The website says no, but we think it could be either ! So we’ve added them both to our search facility on the website !
I remember when I was much younger in the late 1960’s, my father drove a Bentley S2 as his main car and then a Jaguar E Type 3.8 Roadster as his weekend car. He loved the looks of the GK and managed to persuade a dealer to let him borrow one for the week. He was going to place an order for one but my mother intervened saying she loved going out for the day in the open top Fast Cat and reminded him of how much fun they had !
I just remember how much I loved the tortoise bade on the bonnet !
Roy’s own GK is in superb condition and he enjoys touring the Continent with it, which is fantastic and just what classic cars are for. Getting out and about and enjoying them, rather than held up in locked garages or museums !
