Opel Kapitan

W 432.453 (Austria)

Year: 1954
Make: Opel
Model: Kapitan

Event: Old Photos

Launched in 1953, this was the third model of the Kapitan since WW2 and came with a 2.6 litre straight six engine. It produced 70bhp which gave it a to speed of over 80 mph, but with a disastrous mpg of 22 miles to the gallon. The Kapitan was the top model in the Opel range and so was well finished inside and out.

It lasted just over 4 years before being superseded by the 2.5 litre Kapitan P1.

Looking at it’s styling you can see the influence of it’s American parent company General Motors.

Our photo was taken in December 1958 on what looks like a trip into the mountains for this Vienna (W – Wien) registered executive car
