Launched in 1959, it shared the same body as the Riley 4/68 and was known as the Pininfarina, or Farina models of BMC, which also included the Austin Cambridge, Morris Oxford and Wolseley 15/60.
It had the BMC B Series engine of 1489cc, but the MG had the edge in that it was fitted with twin SU carburettors. This gave it a top speed of 86 mph plus a 0-60 of 19 seconds !
It was succeeded in 1961 by the Magnette MkIV
