Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000    

Ford RS2000, what can we say that hasn’t already been written a thousand times.

Back in the late 1970’s, the Mk2 RS Escort was THE car to have.

Launched in 1976, with the introduction of the Mk2 Escort, it followed on from the Mk1 RS2000, with the same 2 litre Pinto engine that was used in Capris and Cortinas. In the RS, it generated 110bhp, which sounds lame by todays standards, but it gave a 0-60 mph of 8.5 seconds, which for the day was pretty nippy.

With Ford being so much into successful rallying, every young blade who had one, thought they were a rally driver. With it’s rear wheel drive, it was quite easy to flip the tail out with a bit of opposite lock. I know as I had one myself back in 1979 !

In 1979, Ford split the RS2000 into Custom, with fantastic Recaro seat and RS wheel, while at the sane time offered the cheaper Base version with steel wheels.
