One of the most famous and popular RS Ford Escorts ever. Ford took the standard Mk2 body and added a bendy plastic front nose cone to feature twin lights and spoiler. Fitted with the famous 2 litre Pinto engine, it generated a healthy 110bhp which for the mid 1970’s was good enough to give you a sporty 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds.
Of course with the RS parts available, it had plenty of choice to tune what you wanted. I had a Diamond White one back in 1979 that we swopped the suspension for single leaf rear springs, Bilstein shock absorbers all around, LSD on the back and a Group One cam and polished head. All topped off with an open box exhaust, it was the Dog’s Danglers. Although my parents neighbours didn’t share the enthusiasm when I came home at 4.00am Sunday morning !
