Ford Anglia E494A

RKJ 51

Year: 1953
Make: Ford
Model: Anglia E494A

Event: Streetscene

Introduced in 1949, it was a kind of upgrade from the pre-war E04A that continued in production after the war.

Owned by many as their first car, the Anglia did sterling service to the 1950’s family, although with a top speed of 57mph and a 0-60 mph of over 36 seconds (estimated !) it wasn’t going to get many speeding tickets.

After the 100E Anglia range was introduced in 1953, Ford cleverly used the Anglia E494A body to produce an ever cheaper car and called it the 103E Popular, or the Ford Pop as it was known. These soldiered onto until 1962 when demand had fallen away.

Often used for the basis of hot rods or dragsters in the 1960’s !
