Austin 7 Nippy

OX 4397

Year: 1928
Make: Austin
Model: 7

Event: Streetscene

Introduced in 1923, the Austin 7 or Seven was named after the horsepower it produced.

Back then the level of road tax you paid on the car depended on this horsepower or hp which was calculated by the RAC, or Royal Automobile Club.

Some say the Austin 7 was Britain’s answer to the Ford Model T !

But it was a cute car that was cheap enough to bring motoring to the masses over the 1920’s & 1930’s.

They came with all different bodies, since then all cars had a separate chassis that the body was bolted onto.

Our example here is a two door Nippy from 1928 and is marked on the back of the photo as ‘awaiting restoration’ !

Since we’ve had the photo 11 years, we wonder if the owner has completed the restoration now !!!
