Aston Martin DB3S    

The  Aston Martin DB3S was launched in 1953 as a sports racing car and 31 examples were built.

11 of these were works cars and 20 were built for private competitors.

63 EMU was one of those works cars with chassis number  DB3S/7 and was built in 1954, although originally as a coupe. But for 1955 it was converted to a open top model and successfully won the 1955 Aintree GP Sports Cars race driven by Roy Salvadori, just beating it’s stablemate driven by Peter Collins. There’s a even a famous painting done of the event.

It went on to compete in the 1955 Silverstone GP Sports Cars race and the 1955 BARC Goodwood race before being sold off at the end of the season. It went on to compete in other events including the 1956 BARC Goodwood.

Our photo here shows the car being driven out of an event with trade plates on with a familiar looking driver. If any one can identify who this is we’d be most grateful. Looks like a famous motoring journalist of the time.

Interesting is that our photo shows the DB3S with a different, much simpler nose cone on it, less swoopy and without the extra air intake
