Launched in 1958, in many ways it was, as someone once told us, like an A35 underneath with a new body.
Continuing the Austin tradition of naming the models A40, it was known as the A40 Farina after it’s designer Pinin Farina, rather than previous A40’s being part of the County named models.
It was launched with the carry over 948cc A Series engine, which gave it a whopping top speed of 68mph and a 0-60 of 19 seconds !
The driver in our photo looks very smartly dressed as if he’s off to a wedding !
