One one of the hottest weekend in the UK’s history, one of our dogs the Standard Schnauzer went to the groomers for a trim to make him feel cooler. So to kill an hour I popped into the local Sainsbury’s supermarket to top up on the barbeque items for Saturday night plus some wine and beer for our friends. Being lunchtime, I’d just bought a sneaky sandwich and was eating in the car with the air-con on when I spotted a gorgeous white MGB GT, sitting nose in with just it’s tail peeping out down the other end of the car park.
You know yourself, being a fellow classic car enthusiast, that you’ve built up this magical six sense to just knowing there’s a classic car near to you and the brain goes into overload trying to find it. I can’t explain it, but you do !
So out came my old mobile phone, or Handy for our German readers, with it’s quaint 1980’s style blury camera, producing photos akin to something you’d have to collect from Boots after waiting a week to have the film developed. So I apologise for the picture quality !
So just as I was sneaking a quick photo, the owners returned, telling me her name was Maggie !
What a lovely couple, Steve and his wife was – sorry my memory isn’t as good so forgot your name. They’d had Maggie about 2 years and they’d always wanted an MGB GT. Surely on a day with 30 degrees heat, they’d prefer to be out in a modern car with it’s air conditioning, to which Steve’s wife said no it was cool enough with the windows open !
We had a good chat and Steve started her up, just turning the key and it sprang into life with no fuss to a steady tickover. Even on such a hot day ! As they drove off, I cheekily asked for a frontal shot, to which Steve drove round the car park to get the perfect shot !
So thanks Steve and Mrs Steve, great to chat and maybe see you at one of the shows one day !
